A Small Tip with a Loud Noise to Protect Yourself from a Coyote
Tuesday, September 07, 2010
In light of the recent coyote incidents in Rye Brook, we wanted to remind Suzy readers of ways that they can protect themselves when outside...
A few Gal Pals were speaking with one of our Police Officers of the City of Rye Police department and they asked, "what is the best way to keep ourselves and children safe when approached by a coyote?" The Officer said, we should carry a boat horn when exercising or going anywhere where one would find themselves in danger. Suzy thought running with a boat horn would be pretty hard but the idea was great. So, we found two small noise devices that are as loud as a police siren (120 decibels) and could help you in many situations including being approach by a wild animal.
The PAL130L Keychain Alarm with Light combines the two best deterrents against an attack. A 130db alarm and a flashing light. The alarm is activated when the pin attached to the keychain is either pulled or by pressing the alarm button on the top of the unit. This alarm can be used as a flashlight without activating the alarm to provide additional night time safety. One 12 volt battery included.
You don't even have to blow the HP-388 electronic pocket/keychain whistle. With a push of a button, it emits a loud 120db whistle. The whistle sounds for as long as you hold the button. 4 inches long. Metal construction. Uses 4 LR44 batteries (included).
