Calling all aspiring chefs! The Square House Museum will host three days of fun and tasty cooking programs on Tuesday, April 10 – Thursday, April 12 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Cooking enthusiasts ages 7-11 will learn how to make an assortment of scrumptious treats and discover several interesting and little known facts about some of their favorite foods. Did you know that Thomas Jefferson actually served macaroni and cheese at an 1802 state dinner or that the earliest recipe for cupcakes can be found in a 1796 cookbook? Each day of cooking will be a different theme; April 10: Old-Fashioned Breakfast, April 11: Comfort Foods, April 12: Sweet Treats. The cost for the program is $65 for all three days; $25 for a single day. Reservations are suggested as space is limited and can be made by calling the Rye Historical Society at (914) 967-7588.
American Girl Doll returns to the Square House Museum. On Saturday, April 21 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, girls ages 7-11 will delight in the tale of young Josephina Montoya from New Mexico. This engaging program will be led by volunteer Heather Schindler and includes a weaving craft and preparing a traditional southwestern dish. The cost for the program is $15 per child and includes all supplies. Reservations are suggested as space is limited and can be made by calling the Rye Historical Society at (914) 967-7588.
