Furniture Sharehouse Furniture Drive
Monday, November 07, 2011

On Sunday November 13, Furniture Sharehouse will be holding its last drive of the season from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Woman's Club of White Plains, located at 305 Ridgeway, just off Mamaroneck Avenue.
Furniture Sharehouse, Westchester's own furniture bank collects your clean, average-sized basic furniture* and re-distributes it all free of charge, by appointment, to clients of nearly 40 Westchester agencies.
Besides re-claiming valuable real estate in their home, donors receive a receipt for their taxes, as well as the knowlege they not only made a kind choice, but a green choice as well.
Since opening their doors in April 2007, nearly 1500 Westchester families in need have received over 21,000 items, valued at over $1.4M.
Donated furniture typically does not linger long in the warehouse, but flood damage from Hurricane Irene has increased the need for sturdy, usable furniture in good repair.
This will be the second annual drive co-sponsored by Our Lady of Sorrows Outreach Program, and the Woman's Club. Last November, in 4 hours, 88 on-site volunteers helped fill two entire moving vans to the brim.
Sofas, kitchen/dining tables and chairs, mattress/boxspring sets are always in demand, but small working appliances (microwaves, lamps, toaster ovens, TVs), rugs, mirrors, and art are needed as well.
There are things they are unable to accept, so please check out these Donor Guidelines before packing up the car. If you are unable to make the drive, or are not able to transport your donation, pickup at a later date can be arranged, please visit the website for more information.
Interested in volunteering? There are (3) 2-hour shifts: 9am, 11am, and 1pm. Minors over 14 are welcome, when a co-volunteering with parent or guardian. Please email Susan Wackerow for more info.
