League of Women Voters Issue Forum

Mark your calendars and plan on attending an Issue Forum on the 2% property tax cap proposed by Governor Cuomo. The 2% tax cap is currently one of the hottest policy topics in Albany and throughout the State. The Issue Forum will be held at the Rye Free Reading Room (Rye Library), 1061 Boston Post Road, Rye, on Tuesday, May 24, 7:30 pm and will feature advocates of both pro- and anti- tax cap positions.
The Issue Forum headline and sub-head:
“Navigating the Gulf between Poison Pill & Silver Bullet.”
“How is a Responsible Community to Control Escalating Tax Bills While also Assuring the Viability of its Governments and Schools?
Our featured panelists are:
E.J. McMahon, Senior Fellow of the Empire Center for New York State Policy
Lisa Davis, Executive Director of the Westchester-Putnam School Boards Association
Dennis Pilla, VP of Westchester Municipal Officials Assoc. & Mayor of the Village of Port Chester
They will present a diverse range of perspectives on the State proposal that may well become law shortly; including its benefits and ramifications. This event is designed to impart a better understanding of the policy currently under debate and to facilitate the exchange of ideas. Following the panel discussion there will be a Q&A session and discussion with the audience.
This is a subject that has long-term impacts upon our schools and local municipalities. Please join us on May 24 th to help gain an informed understanding of the pros and cons of the property tax cap proposal and its impacts.
