Earth Week Activities in Westchester County
Earth Day is quickly approaching and there are lots of events happening this year.  No matter where you live in Westchester, one of these is close to you!

1) Cortland - Saturday April 30, 2011 - 9am-2:30pm - Muriel H. Morabito Community Center, stop & swap compost bins & rain barrels, free gifts, and e-waste drop-off.  Contact 914.734.1002 or renewcortland.org/earthday.

2) Cross River - Saturday April 30, 2011 - 4th Annual Sustainability & Wellness Fair - 10am-2pm - John Jay High School Rte 124 Cross River, NY - FREE

3) Garrison - Saturday April 16th - Volunteer Landscape Day - 9am-2pm - Volunteers of all skill levels are welcomed!  This will be held rain or shine, lunch served.  Manitoga Rte 9D, Garrison.  to register contact 845.424.3812 or russelwrightcenter.org

4) Larchmont - Friday April 22, 2011 - Earth Day Decoupage - 3:30pm-4:30pm, for ages 7-12.  bring left over glass and plastic containers to the library and use old magazines to turn them into useful works of art. - Larchmont Library - 121 Larchmont Ave, to register contact 914.834.2281 or larchmontlibrary.org

5) New Rochelle - Friday April 22, 2011 - Crafts For Earth Day - 1pm-2pm - Kids can create projects from recycled items, containers, homemade paper items, etc.  New Rochelle Public Library - 1 Library Plaza (Lawton St. & Huguenot St.), New Rochelle.  To register contact 914.632.7878

6) Scarsdale - Saturday April 23, 2011 - Earth Day Celebration - 1pm - 3:30pm - Help spruce up the grounds, prepare the garden beds, clear trails, and more!  You can also learn about sustainable practices from the naturalist staff.  Greenburgh Nature Center 99 Dromore Rd, Scarsdale - FREE, For more information contact 914.813.1280 or greenburghnaturecenter.org

7) Ossining - Saturday April 30, 2011 - Ossining Earth Day Celebration - 12pm - 4pm - Music, local food, education, student performances, and sustainable green vendors.  There will also be recycling/donation sites for clothes, books, household and personal electronics.  Louis Engel Waterfront Park, Ossining, for more info contact greenossining.org.

8) Tarrytown - Friday April 22, 2011 - Clearwater Generations: An Earth Day Celebration - 8pm - Pete Seeger along with Tao Seeger head-up this benefit concert for Clearwater Generations - Tarrytown Music Hall, Main St, Tarrytown - Tickets range from $48-$98, for more info and tickets contact 877.840.0457 or tarrytownmusichall.org.

9) Valhalla - Sunday April 17, 2011- Earth Day Westchester - 10am - 4pm - Come enjoy live music and entertainment, Earth Day farmers market lawn and garden Q & A with Cornell Cooperative Extension Of Westchester County "Green" exhibit.  Kensico Dam Plaza - FREE

10) White Plains - Tuesday April 19, 2011 - Kids Earth Day At White Plains Public Library - 4pm - 5pm - Kids will create recycled art projects.  They will draw a picture of their favorite book, then turn it into a puzzle, for ages Kindergarten through 4th grade.  FREE - White Plains Public Library 100 Martine Ave, White Plains.  For more info contact 914.422.1476 or whiteplainslibrary.org

11) White Plains - April 25-30 - White Plains Earth Week - The kick-off event will take place Monday April 25th, 4pm at City Hall with a tree planting ceremony and music ending in a Sustain White Plains Celebration on Saturday April 30 from noon - 5pm.  For more info contact sustainwhiteplains.org

12) Yorktown Heights - Saturday April 23 - Earth Day At The Farm - 10am - 4pm - Come meet farm staff, tour the farm, and hike the trails for free.  Farm tours are from 10am - 1:30pm, trail hike at 11, and composting with worms at 2:30.  The composting workshop is $20, Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environment Center 1271 Hanover St, Yorktown Heights.  For more info contact 914.962.2368 x2 or hilltophanoverfarms.org.
