Rye Historical Society: Eat, Drink and Be Merry
On Saturday, March 5 the Rye Historical Society will debut a new exhibition entitled Eat, Drink, and Be Merry: Tavern Life In Colonial Rye and Beyond at the Square House Museum. This exhibition traces the importance of taverns in the 18th century through historic objects, an array of images, and informative text panels.  The tavern was tightly woven into the fabric of everyday life in colonial America, from its use as a resting place for weary travelers, a meeting site for local residents, a venue for entertainment, and a suitable business opportunity for women. The exhibition will be on view through July 30th. Admission to the museum and the exhibit is free.

To celebrate the opening of this new exhibit, the Rye Historical society will host a special event on Saturday, March 5 from 7:00 – 8:30 pm at the Square House Museum.  The public is invited to an entertaining evening with brew master Fabienne Morris of Anheuser-Busch/InBev. Ms. Morris will give a presentation on the history of brewing in America and discuss the differences between lagers and ales. The evening will end with a tasting of a variety of beers, ales, and lagers. The cost for this special event is $25 per person and reservations are suggested as space is limited.  To reserve space, please call (914) 967-7588.

The Rye Historical Society is located at 1 Purchase Street, Rye, NY.  The Square House Museum is open Tuesday through Friday 9 am to 4 pm and Saturday 10 am to 3 pm.
