Remembering 9/11
In honor of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, there will be many local opportunities to remember and reflect.

Rye Presbyterian Church will hold a special service Sunday, September 11, at 10 a.m. commemorating the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Congregants will be asked to submit various forms of expression of how they remember that day and those that perished.

The Locust Street Fire House and Gazebo adjacent to the Rye Library will hold a ceremony at 3pm on September 11 to honor those whom we have lost.

A USO 9/11 Remembrance Walk will take place in lower Manhattan on the morning of September 10. They anticipate 1,500 walkers to demonstrate support for the troops in one of the only large-scale events that New York City allowed to take place this weekend besides official government events. The proceeds from this event will fund vital USO programs and services that support our troops and their families, making a meaningful difference in their lives. The event is at Charles St & West St, New York (Hudson River Park, Pier 46) at 8:30am.

The Westchester County County Center and the Volunteer Center of United Way will hold a volunteer expo on Sept. 9 from 2-7pm as part of a nationwide effort to encourage vounteering that will help to match volunteers with agencies that need their help. Approximately 100 nonprofit agencies will participate. Donate blood and participate in other service projects as well.

The JCC of Mid Westchester will host a day of CHESED (Kindness) on September 11 from 10-4, all taking place at 999 Wilmot Road in Scarsdale. There will be a host of events going on, including: a blood drive for White Plains Hospital, bone marrow screening, Rosh Hashanah Package Delivery,
collection for overseas troops/card making through Operation Support Our Troops, a children's clothing collection, cereal collection, hair donations for children through Locks of Love, home care/medical supplies collection, pet adoption/animal toys collection through PetRescue and honey donations through the Met Council on Jewish Poverty.

There will be a twilight ceremony at Kensico Dam Plaza in White Plains beginning around 6pm. The event will be held at twilight, including a candlelight ceremony.
