Rye Traffic Test- The Stop Signs are Here to Stay!

As an alternative control measure City staff had replaced existing traffic signals on Purchase Street at the Locust Avenue, Elm Place and Smith Street intersections with stop signs and other related sidewalk improvements.
The City tested this alternative traffic control concept and the results have been overwhelmingly positive! Studies showed the new traffic stop signs provided for much better flow of traffic through town and much slower driver speed on average. The temporary stop signs are still installed and are expected to be replaced by permanent ones at a future date.
