Greening Our Children Luncheon
This event benefits the Mount Sinai Children's Environmental Health Center whose mission is to discover the preventable environmental causes of disease in children.

Children are not simply 'little adults'. They are uniquely sensitive to toxic exposures in the environment. Toxic exposures in early life can affect health and cause disease in childhood and across the entire human life span.

Please support our work — and help sustain our mission to protect children against environmental threats to health.

On Monday, May 9, 2011 the fourth annual Mount Sinai Greening Our Children benefit luncheon will take place at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich for the Mount Sinai Children’s Environmental Health Center.

When: Monday, May 9th

Time: Silent Auction, Expo and Cocktails 10 AM – Noon
Luncheon 12 – 2 PM

Where: Hyatt Regency Greenwich

Tickets: Starting at $250

The program includes a panel discussion lead by Philip J. Landrigan, MD, who is the Ethel H. Wise Professor and Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine; the Director of  Mt. Sinai’s Children’s Environmental Health Center; Dean for Global Health and Professor of Pediatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Landrigan is known for his many decades of work in protecting children against environmental threats to health.

He will be joined by Christopher Gavigan, internationally recognized expert in the area of healthy, sustainable product development for children and families and author of the best-selling book, Healthy Child Healthy World - Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home,  which teaches families how to reduce household exposures to toxic chemicals. Christopher is an environmental leader who has dedicated himself to improving the lives of children and families. As the former CEO of Healthy Child Healthy World, Christopher has led public awareness campaigns and educational programs that inform parents about the daily choices that impact our children’s health. Christopher also blogs for the Huffington Post and WebMD and was awarded Elle Magazine’s Green Award in 2007 and WebMD’s Health Hero Award in 2010.

They will be joined by Shanna H. Swan, PhD, Professor and Vice Chairman of Research for the Department of Preventitive Medicine at Mount Siani School of Medicine.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Ms. Jessica Capshaw, Actress, Activist and Mom. Questions will be taken from the audience with each of the panel’s experts discussing what actions we, as parents can take to keep our children safe.

The mission of the Mount Sinai Children’s Environmental Health Center (CEHC) is to address this challenge – to protect children from toxic chemicals in their air, their water, and their food by spearheading efforts to track the root environmental causes of disease. The Center’s research builds on over three decades of work by its director Philip J. Landrigan, MD, MSc, a renowned pediatrician and epidemiologist who has devoted his career to protecting children against environmental threats to health.
