Girls' Weekend on the Intrepid

Throughout the month of March, the Intrepid continues to honor Women's History Month with a series of lectures, family events, educational workshops and more. On March 19th and March 20th, 2011, two special events are planned which empower girls to excel in the sports and the sciences. If you have a daughter, you will not want to miss these events.
Girls in Sports Day - Saturday March 19th
10am - 5pm
Inspirational programming to encourage girls to participate in sports for good health, fun, and to learn life skills. Some of the activities include:
- Meet Heather O’Reilly, one of professional soccer’s top players (11am-1pm)
- Play indoor tennis with the USTA staff in Intrepid’s Exploreum
- See an amazing fencing demonstration by 2 of the 4 members of the Women’s Sabre National Team
- Demonstrations from the premier amateur women’s soccer team in NYC, the NY Magic
Girls In Science and Engineering Day - Sunday, March 20th
10am - 3pm
Participate in demonstrations, experiments and activities aimed at showcasing science, technology, engineering, and math among girls. Some of the activities include:
- Explore what is living below the Intrepid in the Hudson River
- Try engineering design challenges with engineering students from The Cooper Union and the staff at Iridescent (e.g. Build a bird or boat)
- Feel what it’s like to see like an astronaut using Space Goggles
- Learn how Doctors prepare for a medical emergency and see how medicine will be taught using Robotics in the future
- Use chemical engineering to mix household products into Super Duper Silly Glue
Admission: - Includes access to Intrepid, Growler Submarine, and the film, Story of Intrepid
Adults - $22.00
Seniors and US College Students - $18.00
Youth (3-17) and Veterans - $17.00
U.S. Active Military, Retired US Military, Children Under 3 - FREE
*Kids ages 3-9 get in FREE before 1pm on March 20th with the purchase of a full-priced adult general admisson ticket.
*Also, women and girls will receive 15% off regular priced admission as a special salute to women.
