Run! Jump! Fly! at Stepping Stones
Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Run! Jump! Fly! motivates children to get moving by making physical activity fun. Four adventure scenes and an “action star training center” provide imaginative settings where children can try out surfing, kung fu, yoga, climbing and more. Featuring the exciting theme of action-adventures popular in children’s books and movies, the exhibit invites visitors to put their balance, strength, endurance and coordination to the test through playful, non-competitive physical challenges.
As they go through the exhibit, children track their progress on Action Trackers and receive a stamp for each activity they try. A take-home 3-Day Mission Action Tracker also accompanies the exhibit and encourages visitors to log 60 minutes of physical activity a day.
Run! Jump! Fly! was designed primarily for children ages 5 – 12. A toddler area enables children ages 2 – 5 to join in the fun.
Surfing and Snowboarding – Balance
Jump on a balance board and see how long you can stay on for the ride. A video takes you snowboarding down a mountain before soaring through the sky and landing as a surfer in the ocean.
Kung Fu Forest – Coordination
Enter a clearing in a bamboo forest and take a bow to begin your kung fu introduction. Learn the animal stances inspired by the rooster, snake and tiger, and follow a series of light box images to try out action moves.
Climbing Canyon – Strength
Traverse canyon walls to explore a cave holding a hidden treasure. Choose from four trails of varying difficulty and use the hand and footholds to guide you across the wall.
Flycycle Sky – Endurance
Strap on a helmet and climb on the flycycle—a stationary bike with wings—and peddle your way to light up stars in the sky.
Action Star Training Center – Balance, Strength, Coordination, Cardiovascular and Muscular Endurance
Learn the tree pose and cat stretch at the Yoga Station; use kid-friendly gym equipment at the Strength Center; and get your heart pumping in the Dance Club.
