Making it Through a Snow Day
Wednesday, January 12, 2011

In the winter, kids are bound to have a snow day or two (or these days, three or four...). Typically, we bundle them up and let them go at it. Sometimes we'll even see kids actually helping parents shovel--imagine that. Once the novelty of being outdoors wears off, the kids will be back inside, and you'll be wondering what to do next. Here are a few ideas of things to do:
• Bring old school playground games inside. Introduce them to Red-Light-Green-Light, Freeze Tag or Simon Says.
• Channel their inner artist. Pull out the paint, glitter glue and all of those other art supplies you keep buying but never use.
• Invite a neighbor over for hot chocolate. Snow days are good days to get to know neighbors you rarely see.
• Make a bird feeder and hang it outside for those feathered friends who haven't gone south.
• Bake together (Suzy's favorite). Make it a game by seeing how creative you can be with whatever ingredients are in the house.
• Have a movie marathon. Introduce your kids to the classics or watch some of the holiday programs you missed before the New Year.
Enjoy!
