Hudson Grille
A new addition to the already booming restaurant scene on Mamaroneck Avenue. But this is no typical burger-and-beer joint (although those items are on the menu).

Owners Brian Mahon and Paul Dillane — who also operate the Porter House eatery next door — are trying to pump up the casual-but-elegant vibe by moving away from the typical pub fare.

Chef Donald O'Roarke offers starters like watermelon gazpacho, Prince Edward Island mussels sautéed with coconut, lemongrass and curry and a shaved fennel and beet salad. Already popular entrees are a seafood stew, steak frites and halibut alla plancha (served with sautéed spinach and in a lemon caper sauce). O'Roarke also tries to use as many local ingredients as possible, getting much of his produce from Hudson Valley and upstate farms.

The cocktail crowd isn't ignored here, though: There's a nice selection of wine, beer and signature drinks (check out the fresh fruit in the martinis). A 30-foot, black granite-topped bar dominates the outdoor beer garden, which also features a glass awning and cascading waterfall. Two bars are key to the relaxed atmosphere in the spacious main dining room as well, where the décor includes leather seating, stacked stone walls and classic red velvet drapes.

Those drapes can be used to rope off part of the room for private functions, too. Interested parties might have to choose a slow evening, though: So far, business has been brisk.
